There is no doubt that there are many reasons why spyware on our computers can be very annoying. Marketing and advertising companies use spyware to act for them on our computers. Spyware enables these companies to delve into our private lives and see what websites we’re visiting. What’s more spyware begins to start sending information back to the site it came from as soon as it gets onto our computers. Spyware sits on your system and works away in the background, reporting everything you do, without you knowing. Its like a parasite.

Spyware not only records the web browsing you do it can also scan documents on your hard drive. It happens without your consent, quietly in the background. Advertisers use this information to then bombard you with annoying ads. Spyware that acts in this way is not necessarily harmful in its own right, but it can really clog up your computer and slow everything down. Spyware causes a great deal of annoyance, but it doesn’t act illegally.

Advertisers would argue it just helps them to target their advertising. If you do lots of searching and browsing on a particular topic then they will target you with ads for products related to that topic. If you’re not interested it is of course simply junk. Spyware that changes your homepage can be particularly annoying and intrusive. Again advertisers may use this to set your homepage to something they think will be of interest to you based on your browsing history. Spyware can also keep giving you annoying pop-up ads.

Although most spyware isn’t dangerous, there are some that do perform dangerous functions. Some spyware will monitor your browsing and also steal financial information and passwords. Businesses find this especially troublesome. Spyware of this kind can try to intercept passwords and credit card numbers. Obviously this type of spyware does perform illegal actions.

There are, fortunately, ways to remove spyware. Some spyware programs are more difficult to remove than others. However, there is software to stop most types of spyware and software that can prevent it from getting onto your computer in the first place. There is software that will scan your computer and remove any unwanted spyware it finds. Spyware is not detectable by Windows Task Manager, but software has been developed to specifically look for it. By using this software you can detect spyware and remove it accordingly. Anti-spyware software will often come with anti-virus programs. Once this type of software has been run once and all offending programs removed it will then keep running to stop new programs infecting your computer.
