There
are many invisible dangers online and among them the way parasiteware
operates comes first. Parasiteware is not considered harmful, even
though it is a desperate attempt of web masters to make money at our
expense and to get attention. Maybe web masters don’t have a
better way to make money and that is why they resort to such means.
Usually we configure our browser to start with a home page we like or
with the default home page. In many cases the default home page is the
website of Microsoft. Very often people configure their start page to
be a search engine – i.e. Yahoo! or Google because for many
people the first thing they do when they get on the Web is perform a
search or check their email.
But start page hijackers desperately try to find opportunities to
change our start page. The tactics they use usually open an unfamiliar
site in your browser without your consent. You might even be inclined
to think that the home page change has been made by somebody else, who
uses the same computer and he or she has bookmarked this page by
mistake. When you discover that your start page has been changed, the
first thing you must do is try to restore your original home page. If
after you restore your default home page, you see the strange page
again, you can think that your home page has been hijacked.
We are pretty aware that each time we connect to the Net and visit
sites different tracking links and cookies are stored temporarily on
our computer. But there are many people, who are not technical enough
to know where to find such nasties and the developers of parasiteware
take advantage of that fact.
Officially, parasiteware is not labeled as harmful. But this does not
mean that you shouldn’t try to find ways to kick it out of
your computer. Nobody in their right mind will want to have nasties on
his or her computer. These nasties can pretty well send behind your
back your confidential information to various sites. This approach is
certainly very mean.
When you run a spyware
removal tool, don’t be surprised that it will
discover parasiteware on your computer. Almost any computer today has
parasiteware and even though it is not a threat, it is certainly not
something you would like to keep.
There is hardly a person in the world, who would want their computer
penetrated and this is the reason why people take measures to defend
their PC against hijackers. PC hijacking does not sound good and it
certainly is an evil. The worst thing you can experience is when
somebody has taken control of your computer. When you discover that
this has happened, you should rush quickly to find a solution and heal
your computer.
You can regard these parasites as a way companies make profit at your
expense and sometimes they even commit crimes using your computer.
Unfortunately, today you can’t hide from parasiteware because
it is everywhere. The only solution is to scan your PC on a daily
basis. But when you know that parasiteware is actually not such an
evil, you begin asking yourself if it really matters that you have it
on your computer or not. Maybe this is the question to ask before your
next visit to the Web.
